About Me
Hello, my name is Stephanie Scheldt. Thank you for visiting my online portfolio. The majority of my portfolio focuses on my professional achievements but please take a look at this page to help you get to know me a little bit better.
I grew up in a small town in West Michigan located less than two miles from Lake Michigan. I loved growing up in a small town and the opportunities it provided me. I was very involved in my high school and enjoyed almost everything my school had to offer. I played basketball, volleyball, and softball, was active in student council, and participated in Girl Scouts. It was through the school that I made friends and grew both socially and academically. Outside of Lake Michigan, school was my favorite place to be. It was this love for school that lead me to becoming an educator.
Pursuing a future in education lead me to Michigan State University. I was initially attracted to MSU because it was a family tradition. My grandfather and mother were both MSU Alums and I had been cheering on the Spartans longer than I could remember. I later came to find that the MSU College of Education had several number one programs, including Elementary Education. I then knew I had found the right place. It was a big change from my small town life style but I felt home.
I currently live in Marshall, Michigan with my boyfriend Kyle and our two cats Jake and Stormy. I received my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University and am currently working on finishing up my Masters degree at Michigan State! As you can probably guess, I love my Spartans! Go Green! I teach second grade at Jefferson Elementary in Coldwater, Michigan and truly enjoy the people I work with, students I teach, and the community I work in. I love being a teacher and cannot wait for another great year. When I am not teaching I enjoy riding my bike, playing with my kitty cats, spending time at the lake, watching MSU football and basketball, and spending time with my friends and family.

Philosophy of Education
A professor at Michigan State University once told me “never underestimate children.” At the time I did not understand the importance of this statement, but I have found throughout my experiences that this was the best advice I could have received.
As educators we must challenge our students. We must motivate them to believe they can achieve. We must instill in them a desire for success and a thirst for knowledge. If we do not believe they can do something, how will they ever come to believe in themselves? I set very high expectations for my students as well as myself. I am confident that in order for students to be successful we must empower them with a sense of responsibility for their actions and achievements, and instill a sense of pride in their work.
As an educator it is my mission to push my students to be the best they can be. I believe this can be done in a safe, encouraging, and self-motivated environment. If we support students through their challenges, we will share delight in their successes. I understand that this is no simple task, but just as I will push my students to persevere through their obstacles; I too accept responsibility for my limitations and will continue to work through my own obstacles to provide the best I can for every student, every day.
