When searching the web for educational apps and websites the possibilities seem endless. It is difficult for teachers and even more difficult for parents to decide what sites are high quality, age and content appropriate, worth the money, and engaging. Below I have provided some websites that I use in my classroom that I feel of the highest quality.
Raz-KidsWebsite: www.raz-kids.com
Cost: $109.00 per classroom Overview: Raz-Kids is web-based program and app that allows students to read, listen to, and take quizzes on books that are assigned to them based on their reading level. This resource is engaging for kids and provides educators with great information about a child's strengths and weaknesses when it comes to answering comprehension questions. The thing I love most about this program is that it provides a library of on level books for each student to reference at home. |
Vocabulary Spelling CityWebsite: www.spellingcity.com
Cost: $2.00 per student Overview: Vocabulary Spelling City is web-based program and app where students are able to practice spelling and vocabulary words through direct instruction and interactive games. This resource is engaging for kids and allows educators to differentiate their spelling and vocabulary curriculum. Each student can have their own list of words and even have their spelling test given to them. |

Cost: $20.00 per student Overview: Dreambox Learning is a wonderful web-based program that increases students number sense and math proficency. This resource gives students a diagnostic test and then creates a math program that caters to their individual needs. This program is adaptive and as students achieve proficiency in specific areas the bar is raised. This program is not only great for diferenitating instruction it provides great reports to teachers and students love it! |
Greg Tang MathWebsite: www.gregtangmath.com Cost: Free! Overview: This website is a great resource for both student and teachers. Greg Tang is a very successful author and math educator. His website features his books, resources for teachers to build number sense in their students, and interactive games that students will love. |

Cost: $20.00 per classroom Overview: Facts 4 me is a website that allows students to research hundreds of popular topics. This site is a great resource for educators because it provides a safe place for students to search for information. The information is written in kid-friendly language and the site provides descriptive images as well as interesting facts. |
Go NoodleWebsite: www.gonoodle.com
Cost: Free! Overview: Go Noodle is a website that is jam packed with fun interactive videos that serve several purposes in the classroom. These videos can be used as a fun brain-break for students or as a way to calm students down and help them get focused on their learning. Some of the videos can also be used to teach educational content. Kids love this website and it is great for students and teachers. |

Cost: Free! Seesaw is a wonderful resource to motivate students and allow parents a window into the classroom. This application allows students to upload a recording, image, or video of any work they are proud of and want to share with their classmates or parents. Providing students with an authentic audience really motivates them to work hard and it is so exciting to see how proud they are to share their work with others. |

Cost: Free or $70.00 per classroom Overview: Although I have never purchased the full version of this website I really enjoy the free version. This website is a great resource for teaching early literacy skills. This resource is especially great for non English speakers as it not only provides visuals but helps ELLs to acquire new vocabulary and provides them with the correct spelling and pronunciation. |

Cost: Free! Overview: PBS kids is a wonderful website for kids. It provides students with a wide variety of educational videos and games that are engaging and fun for children. Students are also able to access content from their favorite PBS shows like Arthur and Wild Kratts. This is a great site for parents who are looking to find something educational for their children to do while online. |

Cost: Free! Overview: Plickers is a great tool for formative assessment in this classroom. For the teacher who are not fortunate enough to have clickers in their classroom Plickers offers an alternative. Teachers can print out a unique image similar to a QR code that allows students to select choice a,b,c, or d based on how they orient their paper. Teachers are able to create their own questions and view student. This is a great tool for formative assessment and the kids think it is really fun! Also these Plickers are very hard to copy as everyone's paper will look different depending on their answer. |
PlanbookWebsite: www.planbook.com Cost: $12.00 per year Overview: Planbook is a wonderful resource for teachers that allows them to create an online database for their lesson plans. This program allows teachers to input their daily schedule and it creates a lesson plan template with the corresponding times. Planbook also provides the option to upload resources needed, attach homework, and link standards to each lesson. Teachers can easily print out their lessons plans for the week, month or day. They can even print lesson plans for one specific part of the day. However, the feature I love most about this program is the search feature. I am able to search my previous years lesson plans to find lesson I may want to teach in the new year. |
